SAINT-GOBAIN CORPORATION

Founded under the reign of Louis XIV, the Royal Mirror Glass Manufactory develops a revolutionary procedure for making mirror glass: table casting. It opened its main production site in a small village in the northeast of the kingdom, Saint-Gobain, from which it took its name.

GLOBAL EXPANSION & THE TYGON® BRAND IS CONCEIVED

U.S. Stoneware Company of Akron, Ohio successfully extrudes PVC and launches the Tygon® branded tubing. Emphasis on quality and sanitation enables Tygon® to lead the premium plastic tubing market. Our R&D scientists soon discover Tygon®’s basic formulation has multiple applications; much as steel can be allowed to fit varied, specific needs, plastic tubing hasn’t been the same since.

Norton Company purchases U.S. Stoneware, thus expanding into chemical process products and plastics.

MERGER WITH PONT-A-MOUSSON

The twentieth century is a century of diversification. Saint-Gobain becomes interested in all types of glass products and takes advantage of the considerable growth of the automotive market and contemporary architecture. The merger with Pont-à-Mousson in 1970 marks a turning point in the history of the Group, deeply transformed by the strong trend toward mergers and acquisitions.

R&D CENTER – NORTHBOROUGH, MA

Norton Company opens its R&D Center in Northborough, Massachusetts – now Saint-Gobain's largest research center in the world.

SAINT-GOBAIN ACQUIRES NPT

Saint-Gobain acquires NPT, the parent company of Flexible Components, Sanitech, and Purefit, allowing for the production of hose assemblies.

SAINT-GOBAIN PERFORMANCE PLASTICS

Saint-Gobain's Performance Plastics division emerges as a global leader in high-performance polymer solutions, focusing on demanding applications with innovative technology. It is comprised of three major businesses – Composites, Engineered Components, and Fluid Systems. Saint-Gobain's Process Systems business unit falls under Fluid Systems and provides solutions for fluid transfer, fluid control, sealing and insulation applications.

PERFORMANCE PLASTICS DIVISION ACQUIRES IFK ISOFLUOR

Saint-Gobain's Performance Plastics division takes over IFK Isofluor in Neuss, Germany. The business is integrated into the existing operation (SGPPL). Isofluor was founded in 1984 and manufactures tubes, profiles and heat-shrink tubing up to a diameter of 140 mm as well as convoluted tubes and flat gaskets from a broad range of fluoropolymer powders.

The Flexible Components brand is replaced by Versilon™. The new brand name represents versatility, with a wide portfolio of premium quality tubing, hoses, and fittings fulfilling a range of demanding certification, performance, and safety standards.

In 2015, Saint-Gobain celebrates its 350th anniversary, 350 reasons to believe in the future. SAINT-GOBAIN ACQUIRES ZENPURE

Saint-Gobain has acquires ZenPure, a company specializing in the development and manufacture of filtration products, mainly for the life sciences sector. Created in 2002, ZenPure designs custom filters manufactured in a state-of-the-art plant in Hangzhou, China. The products are marketed and sold across the globe and bolster the range of fluid systems made by Saint-Gobain’s Plastics business.

PURCHASE OF SG PLÁSTICOS

Saint-Gobain acquires Brazilian specialty extruded tubing producer, SG Plásticos, which operates an 8,000 m2 plant in São Caetano do Sul, located just south of São Paulo. The company processes a wide variety of plastics into tubes, ranging from PVC, PE and PET to PU, PC, PMMA, PA 6, PA 12 and TPU. Its portfolio also comprises PFA, FEP and ETFE. The group primarily caters to customers from the industrial, life sciences and automotive segments.

DEVELOPMENT OF SAINT-GOBAIN LIFE SCIENCES

Saint-Gobain Life Sciences is formed out of the Group's Transform & Grow program. Life Sciences designs and produces high-performance, innovative polymer solutions and components across a wide range of industries, including biopharma, medical, food and beverage, personal care, electronics, and other industrial and consumer sectors.

EQUFLOW® ACQUISITION

Equflow®, acquired by Saint-Gobain in September 2021, was the first to develop single-use flow measurement solutions and has since added permanent flowmeters and controllers with custom modifications to their product portfolio.
