Seal Testing

Seal testing helps identify the maximum level under a particular condition that products can withstand without fracturing. By performing seal tests, you can prevent potential failures which can cause additional costs, and ensure that your customers will be satisfied with the products.

At Saint-Gobain, we leverage our world-wide network of qualified laboratories to perform a myriad of seal tests for our customers. Typically, the entire testing process can be completed in less than four weeks, and the results are valid for within a certain period or a lifetime.

Mechanical tests include: density, shore hardness, tensile, compression set, tear strength, breaking elongation, corrosion, ozone and UV, heat ageing, liquid resistance, thermal conductivity and resistance, brittleness point (low temperature), and more.

Silicone Material

Silicone is a synthetic polymer, which is composed of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and silicon. This elastomer shows viscoelasticity – it has both viscous and elastic properties. Silicon comes from silica which is found in sand. Silicone materials are widely adopted in various applications.

At our plant, we transform silicone into seals using a High Temperature Vulcanize Rubber (HTV) curing process. During the process, we use platinum or peroxide as a catalyst to transform High Consistency Rubber (HCR), or Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR), and other sub-materials into high quality seals.

Did you know: Saint-Gobain aims to drive the environment by implementing sustainable practices. For the last few years, we have been partnering with experts around the globe in silicone recycling to extract silicone oil to reuse in other industries.
